Hi, I’m Nathan Hodge, Director of Hodge Town and Country Builders. This is how my journey began.
I grew up in the small country town of Goondiwindi, QLD, raised as somewhat of a bush kid in a family of builders. My grandfather ran a highly respected building business for many years, where my uncle also worked—building everything from penthouses to outhouses. From an early age, I was drawn to the craft, often helping out after school and on weekends.
After finishing high school in Bowen, North QLD, I returned to Goondiwindi and spent six years living on a friend’s family property 25km out of town. I initially worked for a local agricultural contracting company for two years but soon realised that my passion for building never faded. This led me to take a position as a concreter/labourer for a small local concreting company. Yet, something was still missing—I wanted more from my career.
That drive pushed me to pursue an apprenticeship with a small local building company—an experience that shaped me in ways I never imagined. My boss was an honest, hardworking, old-school gentleman, and unbeknownst to me, he would instill these very same values in me. We worked on a vast range of projects, mostly renovating old homesteads on cattle, sheep, and grain properties within a 300km radius of Goondiwindi. Without easy access to subcontractors, I had to learn every aspect of the trade—from roofing, tiling, and restumping to concreting, plastering, and even some plumbing. It was hands-on training that is rare to find these days.
After six years of working alongside the man who shaped my career, I felt it was time for a change. I moved back to North Queensland, taking on subcontracting work with multiple construction companies to broaden my industry knowledge. It was during this time in Bowen that I met my wonderful wife, Megan—the person who gave me the final push and support I needed to take the leap and get my Open Builder’s Licence. With that, Hodge Town and Country Builders Pty Ltd was born.
Megan and I married in 2014, and a year later, we welcomed our son Clancy into the world. As our business grew, so did our family, with the arrival of our daughter Wynnie in 2019.
Building a Business Like No Other
From the very beginning, I wanted Hodge Town and Country Builders to be different—to provide a specialised service for local, rural and remote areas, with a particular focus on building custom new homes, homesteads and major renovations.
Over the years, we have completed high-end, large-scale projects across commercial, residential, rural, and industrial sectors. Whether it’s a multi-million-dollar pub renovation or a $20,000 shed, we have tackled challenging jobs and always delivered a quality product.
Beyond the Build
When I’m not on-site, you’ll find me hunting, fishing, or spending time with my family. Whether we’re at home on our acreage block, looking after our cattle, pigs, and a few pan lickers (dogs!), or out on the Great Barrier Reef fishing and crabbing, life outside of work is just as important to me.
Our hardworking team—including my family—is the backbone of Hodge Town and Country Builders. Their dedication, skill, and professionalism shine through in every project we complete. We share the same values, both on and off the job site, and that passion for quality craftsmanship speaks for itself in every home we build.
So, that’s our story so far. I hope it gives you an insight into who we are and what Hodge Town and Country Builders stands for. We look forward to working with you and making your dream home a reality!
